What the UKVI sponsor register shows — and what it doesn't

The UKVI sponsor register is a public list of organisations the Home Office has approved to sponsor Skilled Worker, Student, and other visas. It's an essential first check — but being on the list confirms far less than most applicants assume.

What the register actually shows.

For each licensed organisation: the legal sponsor name, their licence number, registered address, which visa routes they're licensed for, and their current licence status — Active, Suspended, or Revoked. That's the full extent of the public record.

What it doesn't show.

The register says nothing about a sponsor's financial stability, how they treat sponsored workers, whether third-party recruiters acting on their behalf are trustworthy, or whether the specific job you've been offered genuinely exists. It also doesn't show past compliance warnings short of an actual suspension, or how many CoS the company has issued.

The mistake applicants make.

Equating an active licence with a guaranteed, legitimate job offer. An active licence means the Home Office has approved the organisation to sponsor — nothing more. A company can be a genuine, active sponsor and still be over-recruiting, involved in a recruitment-agency scam it isn't fully aware of, or simply not have the role it claims to be offering.

An active sponsor licence confirms a company's ability to sponsor. It does not confirm the intent, or the honesty, behind any specific offer you've received.
